Deputies: Saw slips from man's hands, cuts him in St. Johns County

A construction worker is recovering in the hospital after he was hurt in a construction accident involving a saw in St. Johns County, deputies said.

It happened Tuesday around 9:45 a.m. in one of St. Augustine’s newer subdivisions called Villages of Seloy.

Action News Jax Courtney Cole was there as investigators with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration worked to uncover how it happened.

The worker was cutting a post with a saw when it slipped out of his hands and injured the top half of his body, according to Chuck Mulligan, spokesman for the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.

It's unclear if it was a manual or power saw.

He’s at UF Health in serious condition, according to St. John’s County Fire Rescue.

The worker has not been identified at this time.

Action News Jax has learned G&H Underground Construction, Inc. was working at the site.

Action News Jax Courtney Cole visited the OSHA website to look up any previous violations the company may have, but nothing turned up.

She also called OSHA to double check the company’s history but OSHA said it wasn't able to share that information until their investigation is complete.
