Man tries to carjack teens at gunpoint at Oceanway gas station

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two teens said a man forced them to the ground at gunpoint and tried to steal their car at a Oceanway gas station.

The 18-year-olds, who did not want to be identified, said they stopped around 2 a.m. Sunday to get something to drink at a Kangaroo Express on the corner of North Main Street and New Berlin Road.

They said they saw two men at a gas pump. One was working on his car and the other eventually approached them, one of the victims said.

"I went to open up my door and as I was getting in and he came up and grabbed me from behind, by my neck," she said.

She said he hit her on the side of the head with a gun and threw her to the ground.

She said he grabbed her keys but wasn't able to start the car because it was a push start.

"He got in my car and he didn't know how to start it," the victim said.

Eventually the suspect gave up jumped in a different car with another man and took off. The women said the car was a two door, golden Honda.

"I think I need to get my story out because I think they're really bold," one of the victims said. "I think they've done it plenty of times before."

The only thing she was able to describe about the man who assaulted her was that he had light-colored skin and dreadlocks.

These women tell me they want anyone who might know who the men to come forward before they go after someone else.
