Meet the couple giving away their Nassau County home -- if you move it

A husband and wife who own a home in Fernandina Beach are wanting to build a new home on the property… so they are giving away the lighthouse that’s on the property.

For free.

The only catch: The person who wants it will have to pay to move it.

Action News Jax spoke with Tony and B.J. Morris, the couple trying to move the home at 706 Fletcher Ave. in Fernandina Beach.

The Morris' bought the home several months ago. Now, they want to build their dream home on the lot.

"We brought the property because we loved the lot and we know we want to build on that property," B.J. Morris said.

The Morris' initially were going to tear down the house but decided to see if anyone wanted it. You can have the home for free, but you have to agree to pay the cost to move it to your property.

"It's not the house we want, so we want to build the house we want and give someone the opportunity to have this before we tear it down," Tony Morris said.

They have had a few people interested in it, but moving it will be difficult.

One person wanted it and planned to move it a half-mile away — until they learned it would cost around $70,000. Even so, the home has caused some serious interest on Facebook.

Action News Jax asked moving companies how they would move it. One company told us they would probably have to cut it in half.

"We are going to have to destroy it and we didn't want to destroy it," B.J. Morris said.

The Morris said they will try to give away the next few months, but in the spring, they will begin the tear-down process.
