Men tried to carjack me near Jacksonville motel, victims say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two people said they were almost carjacked at gunpoint at a local extended stay on the Southside of Jacksonville.

“There’s another guy with a rifle pointing it at my chest, and he asked me to give him the keys or he would shoot me right there,” said one of the victims, who didn’t want to be identified.

The man said he had dropped off a co-worker at the extended stay near Gate Parkway at about 6 p.m. when he was approached by two armed men.

He said they got his phone and keys and tried to get away in his car.

“They got in there, they got a little impatient. They couldn’t turn it on, so they started screaming at me,” he said.

He said as they were trying to start his car, he took off.

Minutes later, according to a police report, they tried to carjack a woman in the same parking lot. She said a man was walking toward her with a rifle, so she locked herself in her car.

She told police the armed man pointed a rifle at her window and told her to get out. But one of the other men said to leave her alone. And they did.

Police said the suspects are described as teens and they took off in an older dark blue car.
