Miracle baby is home in Jacksonville

A local miracle baby who beat the odds is back home after spending more than seven months in the hospital.

Ivy Finn was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, affecting the blood flow through her heart.

Doctors told her parents Rachel and Geoffrey Finn, her chances of life were slim to none.

“They thought her chances of survival were very low.” Rachel Finn, Ivy’s mother said.

It was a devastating diagnosis for these young parents.

“It’s not something any mom wants to go through... and not knowing if this was going to be it.” Rachel said.

These young parents, stayed hopeful, they were approved for a first ever experimental surgery while Ivy was still in the womb at 30 weeks.

The surgery was a success, Ivy spent more than seven months at Texas Children’s hospital in Houston. Three open heart surgeries later the family is back home in Jacksonville.

The Finn’s believe this goes beyond medicine.

“For her to be doing so well it doesn’t make sense medically, I got goosebumps thinking about it. She’s supposed to be here.” Geoffrey said.

Ivy has one more surgery in the coming years, and will likely need a transplant down the road. For now Ivy’s parents are soaking up every second with their baby.
