Mom of Jaguars player Allen Hurns helps Harvey victims

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — When Hurricane Harvey roared through Texas, it left behind unimaginable flooding and devastation.

The images from that devastation is exactly why Erica Wilson decided to get involved.

“The kids. The senior citizens. Oh my gosh. Especially the ones who were inside the homes. That broke my heart to pieces,” she said.

In just a few short days, Wilson has called for relief donations at three drop-off points, including Mambo's Cuban Café on Beach Boulevard.

It's a true example of teamwork. Mambo's owner Raul Arias is married to Action News Jax’s Lorena Inclan.

“Whatever it takes, we're here to work and to do good for the people – because if we don't look out for other people, who is going to do good for them?" Arias said.

Normally this time of year, Wilson is busy cheering on her son – Jaguars wide receiver Allen Hurns.

With the Big Cats playing in Houston on Sunday, she'll be able to blend both the grid-iron and giving back.

“I actually get to go visit Texas while up there for the game. So, not only do I think about the football, but I think about life, period. Because it could have been us,” Wilson said.

Wilson remembers that every time she helps single moms through her organization 88 Blessings.

A passion to help others is a call from the heart, and one she'll continue to heed.

“I knew that I had to get it done and get the things to the people of Texas," Wilson said.

Those who want to help Wilson’s cause can drop off items such as water, sports drinks, cereal, canned goods, shoes, socks, baby supplies, underwear and feminine hygiene products at the following locations through Thursday:
