Murray Hill neighbors on edge after burglars swipe garage door openers from cars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Surveillance video shows a pair of burglary suspects approaching a Jacksonville couple's front door in the dark.

Neighbors in Murray Hill say the same men have been rifling through unlocked cars.

In the video from early Saturday morning, two men slowly approach the door as a family sleeps inside. The victims believe the suspects tried to open the door before eventually walking off.

Those victims said the men first went through their car, stealing their garage door remote.

Because of that, the neighborhood is on edge.

“That is a huge concern that they might come back,” neighbor Jonathon Keeley said.

Next door, Andy Pacheco said the same thing happened to him.

“They took, actually, the garage remote control,” Pacheco said. “That was the part that worried me, so immediately just went ahead and changed the codes just in case.”

Neighbors said this is a safe area.

“Until this happened, I used to feel very secure,” Pacheco said.

But crime mapping data from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office shows more than two dozen calls within a mile of the home for burglary, robbery and car break-ins in the last month.

Neighbors said they plan to voice their concerns to the sheriff at their monthly meeting.
