Nassau County Animal Services trying to reunite dog found during Bryceville wildfire with his owner

A dog that was found during the wildfire in Nassau County is still without its owner.

Several animals were displaced during the fire, but most of the ones that were rescued are back at home.

"We are calling him Bryce since he was found in Bryceville," Nassau County Animal Services administrative assistant Ruth Killmeyer said.

Bryce has been without his owner for nearly a week since the fire in Nassau County forced families from their homes.

"He looked like he had run from someone,” Killmeyer said.

The fire started around County Road 121 and that’s where Killmeyer said the Yorkie was found.

He was found with a collar and leash, but he isn't micro-chipped.

"Everybody else has seemed to have found their pet or didn't have any problem keeping up with them," Killmeyer said.

Animal services has been trying to find the owner by posting on their website and social media.

“We've had a lot of calls inquiring about adopting him, if it comes down to that, but so far no call from an owner," Killmeyer said.

Killmeyer said they believe the dog is about 5 years old and they usually keep pets for about five days, but they are holding Bryce longer, hoping the owner will come forward soon.

"We are extending this cause people have been displaced, lost their homes and we just want to make sure he can get back to his owner," Killmeyer said.
