Nassau County family's Christmas presents stolen from car

Less than two weeks before Christmas, a local family is hoping to recover all of the Christmas presents that were stolen from the family's car.

The Sever family said this is the second time its car was burglarized in the past week.

On Monday, the family said presents for the grandchildren, nieces and nephews disappeared.

The family believes the culprit took the presents and returned them at a local Walmart for cash.

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office said it obtained surveillance video from the Walmart parking lot and will review it.

Meanwhile, the family is devastated.

“It’s kind of sad because it’s, like, ‘Why do you have to take kids' presents to get money?’ It doesn’t really matter what the money is for, those are still kids' presents,” daughter Alexus Finley said.

The family said it will find a way to repurchase some of the presents, but Christmas is just going to be more challenging this year.
