Neighbors concerned after multiple crashes on residential road in Jacksonville

A Jacksonville resident said he is tired of drivers speeding through his neighborhood and not paying attention after a driver crashed into his neighbor's car last weekend.

Timothy Pearson said he was outside when the car crashed into the parked car at the corner of Mayapple road and Pine Summit Drive East. “I heard an most almighty explosion and looked over the car that had plowed into the two vehicles,” he said.

The crash isn't the first one that happened near his home. “Over there just ten days ago, a vehicle went through the fence. A stolen vehicle,” Pearson said. He said speeders often come through his neighborhood to avoid traffic from Rogero Road to Merrill Road.

“You miss out two lights and people just come screaming up here to make up one or two minutes,” Pearson said.

Lake Lucina Elementary School isn't too far from the road.

Action News Jax went out to the area with the speed gun. In a 15 minute period, we captured three cars going over the 30 mile an hour speed limit.

“In truth, I think the city owes us and its their responsibility to put a bump there or road bump or slow down vehicles approaching that intersection,” Pearson said. He said he hopes something can be done to make his neighborhood a less dangerous.\

The city said it has not received traffic complaints or speed bump requests submitted regarding this intersection.

Citizens can submit concerns identifying traffic related problems and challenges through 630-CITY (phone) or online.

Traffic Engineering will conduct an initial assessment of identified issues and determine options and next steps.
