Neighbors disturbed after mutilated animals found in Bartram Park

LOCAL: Frontier appears to be adding flights from Jacksonville

Dead animals are being dumped in a Jacksonville neighborhood, sometimes right next to a school.

We've blurred out graphic images that appear to show animals mutilated on purpose and put on display.

Action News Jax’s Michael Yoshida went to the Bartram Park neighborhood and learned this is not the first time dead animals have been found in the area.

Two dead deer were left on the side of Corklan Drive in Bartram Park over the weekend.

“I think it’s pretty disgusting. I can’t believe it. That someone would do that right here,” neighbor Lisa Barrus said.

Barrus and her husband saw the dead animals Sunday morning. She said the legs were cut off along with the head and left just feet from the road.

“It’s not right, it’s not normal. It’s very savage, to tell you the truth,” Barrus said.

While talking with Barrus, we spotted what appeared to be other animal bones as well. They could be seen scattered on the ground.

“I have no idea what’s happening here … I just think it’s pretty sick. It’s not the first time. It’s four animals since March,” Barrus said.

Barrus gave us a photo that shows a dead deer in a barrel. She said it was dumped near Duval Charter School at Flagler Center and kids had to walk by the deer.

Barrus has called the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Fish and Wildlife about the dumped animal bodies. She said she’s not against hunting if it's done right.
