Neighbors say they will take extra safety measures after reported sex battery in Jacksonville Beach

Kati Shea said her family lives right down the street from where a woman was attacked in a reported sexual battery incident early Wednesday morning.

“Honestly, it’s pretty shocking. You do think this is a safe neighborhood and it’s scary,” Shea said.

Police say a man entered into a 63-year-old woman’s home by going in through the sliding glass door of her second story beachfront balcony.

In October, Action News Jax reported on two other men who police say attacked a woman on the beach and tried to remove her clothing.

The October attack and this week’s attack are only a five-minute walk from each other.

The suspect description for one of the men in the October case was similar to Wednesday's suspect description.

We called police to see if they believe the attacker could be the same person. They said at this time, they don’t believe so.

Shea said these recent attacks will make her think twice about walking on the beach alone.

“It really makes you think definitely be more cautious and aware all the time,” she said.

We did spot officers patrolling the area this afternoon.

We also spoke with other neighbors off camera who say they’re going to buy pepper spray and carry it on them whenever they’re alone.
