Nocatee burglar caught on camera

PONTE VEDRA, Fla. -- — People who live on Willow Falls Trail in Nocatee are on alert after a would-be burglar was caught on surveillance video trying to break into several cars.

He got away empty-handed thanks to prudent car owners who locked their vehicles but according to one family it's not the first time this happened.  Two of the cars targeted belong to Aubrey and his wife. He did not want to share his last name but he said the first incident happened around 3 a.m. July 3. The latest incident happened around the same time Tuesday morning.

"He's getting away with it and he will continue to get away with it until he gets caught," said Aubrey.

In the video you can see the barefoot bandit, who looks like a teen, put his hands under his shirt to not leave fingerprints as he tried to open two cars. When that doesn't work, he checked the gas cap hoping for a spare key.

Jeff Heath's car was also targeted.

"It's starting to be become a pattern for sure. We actually just called to get security installed in our place," said Heath.

Neighbors now worry if the burglar is not caught soon things could escalate. In the meantime, they have a message for him.

"We will find you," said Aubrey.

According to neighbors, about a month ago, valuables and money were stolen from others cars in this same block, but it's unclear if it's the same thief. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
