Nonprofit's tractor stolen from Jacksonville baseball field

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A rake is all that’s left of Argyle Athletic Association’s tractor.

The nonprofit’s president, Jeff Eads, said someone stole the $3,000 tractor they used to maintain the fields leased from the City of Jacksonville.

He explained it’s not surprising, given the shape of their storage containers.

Thursday he showed Action News Jax reporter Jax Beth Rousseau the mechanisms that should secure the container.

“Because of the state of the conex box, those no longer function,” Eads said.

Light streams into the container through rusted holes.

According to Eads, whoever stole the tractor left the lock intact and broke the hasp from the actual container.

He said, “We absolutely won’t store anything in here any longer.”

Right across the field is a new football league storage box the City of Jacksonville helped pay for.

Rousseau called District 12 Councilman Randy White.

White admitted he went out to see the baseball league’s container when Eads complained.

According to White, the container doesn’t belong to the city, which they usually doesn'tprovide equipment storage.

The councilman said he’s pushing for funding to get the league a permanent building.

“Now, we have a potential safety issue for the kids," Eads said.

The association president said the group has been attempting to get a building constructed for years.

He said the teams have raised the money for the structure, but need the city’s help paying for the concrete base.

A GoFundMe has been set up to replace the tractor.
