Officials: Jaguars game expected to sell out for second week in a row

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Officials say the Jacksonville Jaguars game is expected to sell out for the second week in a row.

A Jaguars spokesperson said Saturday that ticket sales were near capacity a week after the team's sellout game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Jaguars officials are telling fans to make their way toward the stadium by 12:10 p.m. if they want to see kickoff.

Two local sports retail companies say fans are also buying more merchandise.

“When we win, they buy,” Mike Akabekjan said.

Akabekjan works at Sports Mania at the Jacksonville Landing.  He says he’s worked for the company for decades – and loves fans’ energy this season.

“It’s exciting energy. People can’t wait to go to the game,” Akabekjan said.

A Sports Mania spokesperson says the stores are usually trying to get rid of merchandise this time of year but right now, sales are up.

Fanatics, another merchandise company based in Jacksonville, is also seeing a big increase in sales.

According to a spokesperson, Jags merchandise sales have increased more than 100 percent compared to the same time period last year.

Merchandise sales are also up 52 percent in the last week compared to the previous seven days, but a spokesperson says the upcoming holidays could have an impact.

Several Jags fans tell Action News Jax that they’re confident heading into Sunday’s game.

“They’re playing at home,” Carmelo Quinones said. “I think their chances are very high, and I’m sure they are going to win this game.”
