Community remembers Orange Park 12-year-old who drowned playing pool game

The Orange Park community is coming together to raise money for a child's family after the 12-year-old died playing a game in a family pool.

Friends said Lewis Scott III died while the family was on a trip to Illinois for a family member's graduation.

Close family friend Sandy Stewart said he died after playing the “hold your breath” game in a pool.

“He was an avid swimmer,” Stewart said. “He loved the beach. He did have some medical conditions, so they’re waiting on an autopsy report to come back.”

Lewis was known to many as an energetic sixth-grader who knew how to make everyone laugh.

He loved playing baseball and was really known for his sportsmanship on the field, Stewart said.

Flyers are going up to entice people to participate in a fundraiser at Dee’s Bar and Grill.

Lewis’ big smile lights up every photo on the flyer.

Stewart, a close co-worker of Lewis’ father, said she wanted to raise money to help his family during this tough time.

“We want them to take their time off and grieve. we want them to not worry about bills, so they can focus on other stuff,” Stewart said.

She’s hoping dozens of bikers will pack Dee’s Music Bar and Grill at 2141 Loch Rane Blvd from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday to raise money for the Scott family.

Stewart said she’s already raised about $5,000 dollars for the family.

A GoFundMe has raised $2,000 for the family.
