Patrol car hit, 3 injured in Brunswick shootings

Glynn County police are searching for the gunmen who injured three people outside a Brunswick bar.

Evidence markers littered the ground outside the Blue Bay at Glynn Place Mall where shots rang out early Saturday.

Bar owner Richard Hurtado said the incident unfolded right outside his club around 2 a.m. He said people were leaving when he heard gunshots.

“It’s scary because you see people trying to run for their lives and there’s very little you can do," Hurtado told Action News Jax.

At least 100 markings on the ground outside denoted each shell casing location.

“The victim managed to make it back into the club and he laid on the ground here and started bleeding. He was shot in the leg,” Hurtado said.

Glynn County police said three people were injured; one was taken to Savannah by helicopter.

Officials said at least three handguns and one semi-automatic rifle were involved. An hour later, shots went off again just miles down the road in the Beverly Shores area.

Police said bullets hit an officer’s car as he patrolled the neighborhood, but he wasn’t injured.

Saturday’s shooting is the ninth street shooting this year. There were 47 in 2016.

Hurtado said those numbers should worry nearby business owners and residents.
