Jacksonville police: Woman shoots her mother at home off Atlantic Blvd.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A daughter accused of shooting her mother in the face is behind bars, charged with attempted murder.

“It was me or her, and it wasn’t going to be me,” said Jan Shahan, who says she was inside the Sandalwood home when her 76-year-old friend was shot in the face.

“I think she was shot in the lower part and it came in the back of her neck,” Shahan said.

Shahan said when she got to the home with Louise Russo, 76, also known as Miss Sunny, Louise Luning was inside with a gun.

“She said that she hated us and she was going to kill us, and she tried, and she got one, but she didn’t get the other one,” Shahan said.

That’s because when Luning pulled the trigger, the gun jammed.

“The gun jammed three times and when it jammed the third time, I grabbed her, we wrestled with the gun, I grabbed the gun,” Shahan said.

Sky Action News Jax was over the scene as investigators were going in and out of the home collecting evidence and talking to witnesses. Luning was seen in handcuffs and getting into the back of a police car.

Luning is now in jail charged with two counts of attempted murder. While several neighbors told Action News Jax the two were always pleasant, Shahan said that wasn’t the case.

“They had been arguing for a while, and I don’t know what it was about,” Shahan said.

She also says police were called to the home the night before, because Luning was threatening to shoot them.

“If they would’ve taken the gun last time like we told them, this wouldn’t have happened,” Shahan said.

At last check, Russo is in critical condition.
