Police: Drag racing led to crash that took out gas pump

NEPTUNE BEACH, Fla. — Investigators now say drag racing was involved in a crash that led to a fire at a gas station pump on Sunday night.

The Neptune Beach Police Department said the driver of a Dodge Viper gunned it when the light on Atlantic Boulevard turned green.

The car jumped the curb and hit the gas pump, starting a fire, according to police.

Police said the gas station attendant turned off the emergency switch, preventing more damage.

The driver walked away unhurt. Charges against him are pending the investigation.
