Police: Driver shot at on I-95 South overnight

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is recovering in the hospital after he was shot and then crashed his car on Interstate 95 just before exit 355, near Golfair Boulevard just before midnight Sunday.

The 37-year-old man was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. According to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the victim was driving alone southbound on I-95 when a driver pulled up next to him and shot him, forcing him to lose control of his car and crash.

Witnesses called police to report the crash, however, the driver never called 911 to ask for help.

The officer who arrived at the scene of the crash noticed a lot of blood in the vehicle. A witness to the incident waited at the scene and spoke with officers.

The gunshot victim arrived at UF Health Jacksonville with his friends, and an off-duty officer reported the shooting to JSO.

JSO says the man was treated at the hospital for serious gunshot wounds.

The Violent Crimes Task Force has been called in to investigate, but they do not know who they are looking for or what the vehicle looked like.

According to a JSO police report, the shooter or shooters may face a charge of shooting or throwing a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
