Woman stabbed in neck with broken metal broom handle in Lakewood

A Jacksonville woman's boyfriend is a person of interest after she was stabbed in the neck with a broken metal broomstick on a porch Saturday afternoon, police said.

Rescue crews were called to a home at 1710 Callahan Street around 1 p.m. to help a woman who was bleeding from her neck.

Officers said the woman was stabbed in the neck with a broken metal broomstick.

Her friend did not want to wait for an ambulance and tried to take her to the hospital, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

First responders met them along the way and took her to UF Health Jacksonville, where she underwent surgery. She was in critical condition.

Officers questioned the witness and the woman's boyfriend. The boyfriend was named a person of interest in the stabbing.
