Jacksonville Sheriff's Office releases composite sketch in transgender murder

RELATED STORY: Police investigate deadly shooting at hotel near St. Johns Town Center

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office released a composite sketch Friday of a man they say could have information about the murder of a local transgender woman in February.

JSO said Celine Walker was found dead in a hotel room near the St. Johns Town Center on Super Bowl Sunday.

The composite is the first clue police have released in six months.

JSO said Walker was found shot dead in room 304 of the Extended Stay America on Skinner Lake Drive.

Friends of Walker said she kept to herself, leading a low-key life. One called her murder a "horrific situation."

Paige Mahogany Parks is the director of the Transgender Awareness Project, or TAP.

“To see that sketch come out [Friday] was a positive move for the transgender community,” Parks said.

JSO said a witness told them the person in the composite was seen at the hotel the day Walker was found dead. They believe he has information on the murder.

This year, three transgender victims have been killed in Jacksonville. In total, four have been attacked.

“I still feel unsafe here,” Parks said. “There’s still murderers out there.”
