Ponte Vedra Beach woman arrested for DUI after series of hit-and-runs with kids in car

Troopers said a woman driving with two kids in her vehicle caused several hit-and-run crashes in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia on Thursday afternoon.

Brandy Stroud Gleaton, 33, of Ponte Vedra Beach, was taken into custody by the Georgia State Patrol in Camden County, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Gleaton was arrested on two charges of DUI-endangering a child under 14 years old, DUI-driving under the influence of drugs and seat belt violation (children 5 years of age and less), according to the Camden County Sheriff's Office online inmate inquiry.

FHP said it started getting calls around 3:30 p.m. about multiple hit-and-run crashes, which started at State Road 9B and Philips Highway.

FHP then started getting more calls reporting hit-and-run crashes on Interstate 295 east beltway and "traveling up the northbound corridor of I-95 into the Nassau County area."

Florida troopers were unable to locate Gleaton's 2007 GMC Yukon, but Georgia troopers and Camden County Sheriff's Office deputies were able to once the vehicle crossed into Georgia.

Camden County deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on Gleaton near mile marker 5 on I-95 and "the suspect vehicle impacted a Camden County patrol vehicle," FHP said in its release.

Gleaton was taken into custody at mile marker 7, near Woodbine. Gleaton is being held in the Camden County Public Safety Complex on a $4,552 bond. Other charges against Gleaton in Florida are pending.

"The Florida Highway Patrol is currently working with the Georgia State Patrol on applicable charges and attempting to determine the reasoning for these events," the FHP said in its release.

FHP said it appears eight vehicles were impacted by the hit-and-run crashes in Florida and possibly two in Georgia.
