Possible car burglary suspect caught on camera in Yulee

The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office is looking for thieves authorities say are breaking into cars in the Hideaway neighborhood of Yulee.

Neighbors are telling others to keep an eye out and sharing what they know online. Thieves are going up to cars and pulling on door handles and one man was even caught on camera.

“There’s been several reports of car break-ins, whether they’re locked or not locked,” said Maryanne Lyman.

According to police reports, neighbors reported that the thieves went through different compartments in their cars and got away with items including cash, garage door openers and keys.

Lyman said she’s heard that other items were also taken.

“Things have been stolen out of them like GPS radios and everything equipment one person had a computer taken out,” said Lyman.

Deputies said they were close to catching the thieves last week when a neighbor spotted two men grabbing car door handles.

When deputies arrived, the men took off, got into an SUV and sped out of the neighborhood, authorities said.

Deputies pursued them, but the thieves got away.

Neighbors said they think that the thieves don’t live in the neighborhood and it’s easy to drive in because there’s no gate.
