Boat capsizes in Putnam County; officials searching for man

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — Officials are still searching for a man's body after a boating accident was reported Wednesday morning at the Lake Grandin boat ramp in Putnam County.

Officials responded at about 5:30 a.m. after receiving a call that was made by person in the area after a man's screams were heard.

A boat with two men on board capsized, according to Putnam County Fire and Rescue officials.

One man clung to the side of the boat. Deputies used a neighbor's boat to rescue the man.

The 33-year-old man, who hasn't been identified, appears to be in stable condition, PCFR said.

Officials are still working to recover the body of 56-year-old Kenneth Edward McCann Jr.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said a father- and son-in-law went out for an early morning fishing trip. For some reason, the boat capsized and sank. PCSO said the boat didn’t crash into anything.

PCSO said the search for McCann went on until well after sunup Wednesday, when it was determined there was little chance that he had survived.

Divers from PCSO, the Clay County Sheriff's Office and the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office are expected to resume searching for McCann on Thursday morning at first light. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will continue searching and stay on scene throughout the night.
