ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies are trying to get five high-powered guns stolen from a St. Augustine home off the streets.
“It’s very dangerous,” said Sammie Whitecloud, a neighbor who lives down the road from where the guns were stolen. “That’s not a good thing."

Deputies believe a person who they are calling an acquaintance burglarized a home on Forbes Road, taking an AR-15 rifle, a shotgun and three semi-automatic handguns.
“Who knows what that person is planning to use it for,” neighbor Alexander Davis said.
According to a report, the homeowner was hanging out with someone, whose name was redacted from the report, earlier in the afternoon and the homeowner let that person borrow their truck.

But deputies say the acquaintance never returned the truck – and the truck keys also had keys to the home. Investigators believe that person came back and burglarized the home. The truck was later found abandoned about 7 miles away.
“That’s scary,” Davis said.
Deputies tell Action News Jax the weapons are among 170 guns stolen this year so far. Twenty-seven guns have been recovered. In some instances, deputies say the stolen guns are used in crimes. Back in August, two teens led deputies on a high-speed chase in a stolen car in which a stolen gun was found.

“They end up in the wrong hands,” Whitecloud said.
Deputies say with the holidays around the corner, they are seeing more and more homes and cars burglarized.
