Profanity-filled jail calls detail alleged hit ordered on Jacksonville man

Action News Jax is going through newly released evidence in the murder of a local father.

Joe Brenton was killed in his home in September the same day he was set to testify in a burglary trial.

Police say the hit on Brenton was ordered from jail.

Four suspects are facing charges in the murder plot. Action News Jax has obtained jailhouse calls from Jecorian McCray, the alleged mastermind.

We are going through six recorded conversations between McCray and an accomplice.

In the first call, McCray can be heard, in a panic, and at times, emotional about the fear of being convicted due to Brenton's testimony, and possibly receiving a sentence of 15 to 30 years in prison.

In September, we were at the scene where Brenton was found dead in his own home. He had been murdered by someone who came to his door.

Police quickly learned that Brenton was supposed to testify the same day against McCray.

We obtained the phone calls from jail and investigators believe they prove McCray was ordering someone to kill Brenton.

"Knock on that (expletive) and be like 'oh this is a such and such of Jacksonville,' you feel me, 'we here to question you' and they going to be like, 'oh open that' and 'boom boom boom boom boom,' ya feel me?"

Here is a partial transcript of the a call from Sept. 19, 2016 (WARNING, CONTAINS GRAPHIC LANGUAGE):

Ford: "Yeah when did you thought we was going to do it?"

McCray: "Knock on that (expletive) and be like 'oh this is a such and such of Jacksonville,' you feel me, 'we here to question you' and they going to be like, 'oh open that' and 'boom boom boom boom boom,' ya feel me?"

McCray: "You know they got that see-through glass (expletive) (expletive) whip that (expletive) up 'boom boom boom boom boom' through that (expletive), ya feel me?"

Two days before the trial, McCray became more anxious. McCray convinced his girlfriend, Teirany Shelton, to go to the Brentons' residence. Shelton made contact with Brenton's wife and tried to bribe her to get them not to testify, police said. Brenton's wife said that was not possible, as they had already gone on record with what had happened.

Here is a partial transcript of a call between Shelton and McCray, where she recalled the conversation she had with Brenton’s wife:

Shelton: “I went and they was like, they'll be there tomorrow. She was like, she wish she could say anything else but she can't.”

Shelton: “I guess they are supposed to be asking her to questions if it was you, if it was him and was your house broken into. I said ‘can I give you money, anything you need’ and she was like, I think she's terrified because her husband is going with her. I don't know what the case is but I'm like ‘is there anything I can do to like have you say this’ and she was like ‘no.’

Shelton: “She was like ‘I wish, because I don't want him doing that much’ and I was like ‘yeah.’”

Shelton: “I tried. I tried. I tried. I tried to talk to what-you-call-its daughter, but she wasn't home. She then said ‘do you want to talk to him’ and I said ‘what the (expletive) am I going to talk to him for, what the (expletive) can he do no (expletive), I want to talk to you.’”

Shelton: “Your mom told me not to talk to him.”
