McKee tried to hitchhike and was in some kind of altercation with a delivery truck driver, a spokeswoman for the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said. When JSO arrived, he could not run.

McKee is in the hospital and is expected to be booked into the Duval County Jail on Monday. He could then be extradited to Putnam County.

Deputies said they were called to a home on Sand Lake Road at 3:40 a.m. Sunday after a man found the 38-year-old woman -- his roommate -- dead in their yard. Deputies believe McKee took her 1990 red Nissan truck. It was found near the Waldo flea market — severely damaged by fire — later Sunday.

Deputies said a black Ford F-250 was reported stolen from the area around the same time.
