Rep. Brown talks redistricting for first time since court ruling

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Rep. Corrine Brown spoke to Action News on Sunday for the first time since a major court ruling about her district.

A Florida judge said the congressional district lines drawn by the Florida Legislature in 2012 are illegal.

Brown’s district winds through 12 counties from Jacksonville to Orlando.

She said the odd shape does not mean that the district is “wrong.”

Brown said, “It’s not just what a district looks like. It’s representation and when you talk about gerrymandering, throw in redlining because we live in areas where you let us live.”

Appeals are expected, and this is not expected to impact congressional races in November.
