Girl reports attempted abduction in Jacksonville's Hyde Park area, authorities say

A man who police say tried to abduct a juvenile from her home on the Westside is still on the loose.

Jacksonville officers were told that a man tried to kidnap the girl between 12:45 a.m. and 4:44 a.m. Monday at Lucente and Burpee drives in the Hyde Park area.

The juvenile victim said she was sleeping when the man entered the home through a sliding glass door. She said she tried to grab a small table to throw at the man when he entered her bedroom.

The victim said the man dragged her outside and threw her on the ground, where she hit her head and briefly became unconscious. The victim said tried to call out to her sister, who did not respond because she was getting ready for work.

The victim said the man was wearing all black clothing with Air Jordan shoes and gloves. She told officers that she did not think that she was sexually assaulted.

The girl's sister said she did not hear the screams from the victim during the incident, officers reported.

An unnamed witness who lives in the house said she saw the victim come into the bathroom shaking and with dirt on her face. The victim told the witness about the attempted kidnapping, the report said.

The girl's mother said she was asleep during the incident and did not hear anything.

The investigation is ongoing.
