Report: Teens arrested after burglarizing unlocked vehicles in an Oakleaf neighborhood

Two Clay County teens were arrested Wednesday after they burglarized unlocked vehicles in an Oakleaf community, according to Clay County arrest report.

Joshua Bowen, 18, and Riaz Mizell- Hamid, 18, stayed overnight at the aunt's home of another teen involved in the burglaries located in the 860 block of Thoroughbred Drive Tuesday.

According to the arrest report, the teens left the home Wednesday at approximately 1:30 a.m, with the intention of burglarizing unsecured vehicles near the residence.

The teens walked southeast on Thoroughbred Drive towards an amenities center at 370 Oakleaf Village Parkway and then crossed over to commit additional burglaries in the neighborhoods east of the center.

At 4:30 a.m., a witness called police after he saw the teens approaching vehicles and tugging on door handles at multiple homes near the center.

A surveillance camera at one of the homes they approached caught the teens walking up to a residence.

When police arrived, they found the teens in the area of Thoroughbred and Laurel Leaf Drive, and after canvassing the area and speaking to a victim, Bowen and Mizell- Hamid were arrested for burglary and petit theft.

The teens took a small bag and two tool kits for an approximate value of $50, according to the report.
