Report: Woman steals over $200,000 from Clay County doctor's office

A local mother is accused of stealing from the doctor’s office where she worked in Orange Park.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Investigators say Julie Hammons, 41, stole more than $200,000 during a six-year period. Hammond is currently out on bond.

An arrest report lists her current employer as a podiatrist in Fleming Island. When Action News Jax called to ask if she still worked there, they said “no comment” and hung up.

Her coworkers said Hammons worked in the office for more than 15 years.

According to the report from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, investigators interviewed Hammons several times and determined that between January 2010 and March 2016, Hammons stole $227,070.04 via checks.

Authorities first became aware of the issue when the doctor Hammons worked for was notified by the IRS of a late tax payment.

When he checked his account, he discovered $47,000 was missing.

Her coworkers didn’t want to be identified, but agreed to give their reaction to Hammons’ arrest.

"I was in shock and I couldn't believe it was happening,” one of Hammons’ coworkers said. “We were family. We thought we were all family and we had been through thick and thin together.”

Julie Hammons' coworkers said their Clay County doctor's office was like a family, and they can't believe she stole $227,070.04 during a 6-year period:
