Jacksonville-area restaurants including Chick-fil-A cited for violations, inspectors say

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Your health and safety is the reason we go out every week to get you answers about the places you love to eat. In this week's original Restaurant Report, Action News Jax Ben Becker reveals the violations inspectors found at local restaurants:

Inspectors found the following at University Diner on Merrill Road at Cesery Boulevard:

  • Food with mold-like growth
  • A food contact surface not sanitized
  • Plumbing system in disrepair

Elsewhere, these violations were found at Hawkers Asian Street Fare on Atlantic Boulevard at 2nd Street causing them to temporarily close:

  • 87 live small flying insects found by state inspectors
  • An objectionable odor in the establishment
  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures

Inspectors say the Chick-fil-A at Roosevelt Boulevard near San Juan Avenue had:

  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • Window cleaner on a shelf next to a salad prep area
  • A handwash sink not accessible for employee use

Brucci’s Pizza at Capulet Drive and 9 Mile Road was cited for:

  • Potentially hazardous food temperatures
  • A spray bottle with a toxic substance stored near food
  • Food stored on floor

All restaurants in this report have passed follow-up inspections.
