Restaurant Report: St. Augustine bar/restaurant closed for roaches

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Action News Jax visited Shaughnessy’s Sports Grill in St. Augustine. A health inspector cited the restaurant for the presence of more than 10 live roaches, more than 20 dead roaches and a blackish-green mold-like substance in the ice machine.

Action News Jax anchor Romney Smith asked the owner about it being temporarily shut down. Marty Shaughnessy didn’t want to go on camera but gave us the following statement:

“The inspector discovered an issue underneath the bar keg cooler that we were unaware of. Our pest control service comes every two weeks and were scheduled for the next day. They came within minutes of the findings and the problem was resolved within hours. We are fully compliant, it is a safe and clean environment and we look forward to our next inspection,” said Shaughnessy in the statement.

Shaughnessy’s Sports Grill had a clean follow-up inspection.

At Sonny’s Real Pit BBQ in Palatka, an inspector found one live roach, live flies in the kitchen and an employee failed to wash hands between changing gloves. A follow-up inspection is required.
