Roaches an issue in Chinese restaurant

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — There were three restaurants shut down this week by health inspectors.

Action News Jax visited New China Restaurant on Normandy Boulevard. The restaurant was cited for having live and dead roaches and eight cold food items held too warm including chicken, shrimp, beef and egg rolls.

The restaurant was temporarily shut down. Action News Jax photographer Robert Jackson found a dead roach and anchor Romney Smith told the manager about it.

“You see right over there in the very back, there is actually a dead roach right there,” said Smith.

“Did it die already?,” asked the manager.

“Yes, it’s already dead,” said Smith.

Smith continued asking about pest control.

“Since you have dead roaches, but your last spray was a few weeks ago, are they coming tomorrow? Will you be calling them today?" Smith asked.

“Yeah we call today and make sure they come tomorrow,” the manager replied.

At Bow Leg’z Bar-b-q on University Boulevard South, an inspector saw live roaches, found temperature issues with cold chicken held too warm and also noted reheated food had temperature issues. It was temporarily shut down.

Road Dawgs food cart on Ramona Boulevard West was cited by a health inspector. The inspector saw no running water, which is a violation that causes an immediate closure of a restaurant.

The inspector also saw an employee handle money then food without washing his hands and noted food items on the cart that weren’t individually portioned.
