Satilla Village Mobile Home Park residents say they're dealing with black mold, roaches

According to several tenants, the Satilla Village Mobile Home Park in Waycross has fallen into disrepair.

On Friday, Action News Jax got answers from the owner.

“I have an infestation of ants and roaches,” said tenant Christina Hatch. “I was told three weeks ago that they'd be out here to fix it, and they have yet to come out here.”

Just down the street, Army veteran Richard Anderson, Sr., showed our crew a part of his floor that’s caving in.

“I weigh 300 pounds. I could go through that,” Anderson said.

Anderson said he also dealt with a black mold problem.

On the outside, mattresses were left leaning against his home. He said his porch broke, sending his son to the hospital.

Anderson had a lot of questions for the ownership.

“They’re just sitting on their butts trying to collect money, I think,” Anderson said.

Action News Jax took those concerns right to the owner, Caleb Walsh, of the Ware County Community Trust.

Walsh blamed the issues on an ineffective maintenance crew. He said they’ve been replaced.

“So you can assure me that conditions are going to improve here?” Action News Jax Reporter Russell Colburn asked.

“I can assure you, personally, that I fix failing properties and my name is on the line,” Walsh said. “It's nothing but failure unless we have happy residents, and that's my goal.”
