Schools in Charlton County to reopen after evacuation order lifted

Schools in Charlton County will resume normal operations Monday after an evacuation order was lifted for residents in the county.

The schools reopening Bethune Middle School and Charlton County High School. Charlton County High School will resume its Milestones End of Course, county officials said.

The Charlton County schools closed due to the mandatory evacuation order for St. George residents when the West Mims Fire posed a threat on the community, the school district said.

The evacuation order was lifted Saturday for residents in St. George, Georgia Bend, Moniac and Canaday Loop.

Highways 121 and 94 have reopened.

Official announcements from the school system will be posted on the system website, the Charlton County School Facebook page and OneCall.
