Sea turtle found dead, wedged inside lawn chair at Mickler's Landing

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A St. Augustine man found a disturbing scene at Mickler's Landing this week.

A sea turtle that apparently washed ashore wedged into and trapped by a lawn chair was found dead on the beach Thursday.

Scott Eastman, a member of the Facebook group Mickler’s Landing Turtle Patrol, found the turtle Thursday morning.

Eastman said the turtle did not have a tag, so the turtle was not previously tracked. The turtle measured about two feet in length.

A volunteer removed the chair and assessed the turtle but it was too late for the sea turtle.

There was no sign of trauma or disease, according to the volunteer, and the entanglement with the chair led to the sea turtle’s death.
