St. Augustine neighbors in 'limbo' two months after Hurricane Matthew

As the First Alert Weather Team tracks temperatures in the 40's and lower, many neighbors are still dealing with a different weather concern.

Thursday marked two months since Hurricane Matthew devastated parts of our area, including the Davis Shores Neighborhood in St. Augustine.

“Everybody is kind of in a limbo situation, waiting,” Davis Shores neighbor Cheryl Briggs said. Briggs and her husband are living in a camper in their driveway until their home is livable again.  Hurricane Matthew gutted it.

Briggs said at least nine other families in her neighborhood are also living in campers.

“I’m sick, my husband is sick,” Briggs said, “Thank God there is heat in [the camper]; we’re one of the lucky ones. Some of the older models that people are renting don't have very good  is not that good.”

Meanwhile roofer Eric Mcloughlin said he’s fixed 100  storm-damaged roofs by himself and there is still a backlog.

The American Roofing of Jacksonville employee said fixing the damage left behind from October won’t be complete until the spring.

“I’m guessing probably April or May, but we still have people unfortunately that we haven’t contacted yet,” Mcloughlin said.
