St. Johns County deputy dragged 30 feet during traffic stop, report said

St. Johns County Sheriff's Office is searching for two people involved in a July 12 incident that injured one of its deputies.

The St. Johns County deputy saw a license plate from Brevard County reported stolen and made a traffic stop, according to a sheriff's office press release.

During the traffic stop, the male driver reversed the car, almost hitting the deputy's patrol car.

The deputy was able to make contact with the driver, he smelled marijuana and asked the driver to turn off the car.

As the deputy was speaking to the driver, a female ran over to the car, got in and told the driver to "go."

The press release said the deputy then tried to remove the driver by reaching into the car to remove his seat belt.

The female placed the car in drive, and they drove away with the deputy still partially in the window of the car.

The deputy was dragged almost 30 feet. He is now recovering from minor injuries.
