St. Johns County deputy fired after being arrested on felony battery charge

A St. Johns County deputy has been terminated after being arrested on a felony charge.

Jeremy Galentine, 41, was arrested Tuesday after a domestic incident with a significant other, Cmdr. Chuck Mulligan with the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said.

Because he was arrested on a felony battery charge, he was automatically terminated.

Mulligan said Galentine was involved in another incident 4 to 5 years ago. It was not a domestic incident, but he was given time off.

According to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office, Galentine and the victim had a disagreement in St. Augustine on July 22, after which they headed home.

After they returned home, the report said, a second altercation ensued and Galentine choked the victim for around 15 seconds. He also struck the victim with an open hand and kicked over a chair in which she sat, causing her to fall, the report said.
