PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. — St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the Jacksonville Beach Fire Department extinguished a two-alarm fire at the Tifton Cove subdivision in Sawgrass Country Club on Tuesday night.
Crews responded to the 70 block of Tifton Way and found heavy smoke and flames showing from the roof of a second-story unit. The multi-unit apartment building had been evacuated, SJCFR said.

The fire was found to be spreading through an attic and the fire extensively damaged three apartment units.
The full extent of damages will be determined upon the completion of the Fire Marshals investigation in coordination with the State Fire Marshal, SJCFR said.
A source tells Action News Jax that several families were displaced.

Crews were able to rescue three dogs from a lower apartment unit that was filled with smoke. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
