St. Johns County teen arrested on child porn charges

A St. Johns County teen was arrested Wednesday after the sheriff’s office got a tip that he was uploading child porn.

Alexander Ngai-Crim, 16, was taken into custody at his home on 10 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of sexual performance of a child.

"It's concerning because we've got children all around us. We are in a neighborhood full of children," a neighbor said.

A neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said she was in disbelief to learn a teen who lives a few houses down from her was arrested on child pornography charges.

"It makes you uncomfortable, it makes you wonder what's going on," the neighbor said.

Detectives with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force got a tip about someone uploading several pictures of suspected child pornography.

Action News Jax crime and safety expert Ken Jefferson was also a former sex crimes detective with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s obviously surprising to investigators that a child would be involved in child pornography. Usually that’s not the case,” Jefferson said.

Investigators got a search warrant for the teen’s house and seized numerous electronic and storage devices.

Several videos and pictures of sexually abused children were found on his computer.

Jefferson said detectives are more than likely looking into the past sites the teen searched and the amount of time he spent on each one.

“They are going to exhaust all of their resources to determine if this person was in collusion with someone else or if he stood alone,” Jefferson said.

Ngai-Crim could face more charges, and it’s up to the state attorney’s office if he will be charged as an adult.

The investigation began last week after deputies received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that someone was uploading pictures of child porn:
