St. Johns County woman tries to take child from park, mom says

A St. Johns County mother is warning parents about a woman who she says tried to abduct her child. She said it happened at a playground near the St. Augustine Beach pier.

The mother, who didn't want to be identified, said a delusional woman chased her nanny from the park, claiming the girl was hers.

"My nanny was shouting to people she didn't know the woman, the woman was shouting back saying she did," the mom said.

An Action News Jax investigation revealed this isn't the first time 43-year-old Marian Shehata has been in trouble. We dug up a dozen offense reports and trespassing warnings between 2011 and 2016.

Shehata has been accused of scaring children at bus stops, loitering in hotel lobbies and stalking neighbors.

The St Augustine Beach Police Department said Shehata was committed to a hospital under the Baker Act on Tuesday night.

Police said the incident at the park is still under investigation.
