State Attorney: Investigation into Shirk's office to be extended

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The investigation into the office of Public Defender Matt Shirk will not be finished by the one-year deadline, according to District 8 State Attorney Bill Cervone's office.

Gov. Rick Scott ordered a special investigation of Shirk's office in August of last year. He gave Cervone's office one year to complete the investigation after State Attorney Angela Corey recused herself from the case.

Cervone told Action News his office plans to file for an extension.

The investigation was launched after alleged inappropriate behavior by Shirk, including questionable texts, emails and hires, were uncovered in investigations by Action News.
