State inspectors find repeated mold violations at Jacksonville hotel

Mold, stained sheets and exposed wires: State inspectors found repeated violations at a Jacksonville hotel.

The Days Inn on Cagle Road in Jacksonville’s Sans Souci neighborhood is still allowed to welcome guests.

A customer reached out to Action News Jax claiming there was mold in the bathroom, stained sheets and no hot water.

Photos from dozens of bad online reviews show mold, dirty vents and spliced wires.

The Florida Department of Business and Regulation has inspected the hotel nine times so far this year, addressing repeated high-priority violations.

When Action News Jax reporter Jenna Bourne walked into the lobby to try to talk to the manager, a couple was complaining to the receptionist about their three-day stay.

“It’s such a coincidence that you showed up at the same time that we were just speaking to this young lady about the problems that we’re having here,” customer Mallorie Surrency said.

“There’s bed bugs and roaches,” customer Mohammad Ilyasi said.

Surrency had a cellphone photo of bed bugs she said were in their room.

“There was no hot water here for three days. And he’s ready to charge you, but he’s not willing to fix the issue. $70, I mean, it’s terrible,” Ilyasi said.

Worried about retaliation from the manager, the couple packed up and left immediately after talking to Action News Jax.

“[The manager] wants me to tell you to leave. He doesn’t want me to give you his phone number,” said a receptionist.

Bourne left her number in case the manager changed his mind about telling his side of the story.

Before you book a room at a hotel, you can look up their recent inspections online; they’re all public records.
