Tattered American flag flying at Jacksonville gas station sparks complaints

Neighbors are calling a tattered American flag flying at a Jacksonville gas station a disgrace.

The flag flies in front of a Shell gas station on Dunn Avenue.

It was damaged during Hurricane Matthew but still hasn’t been taken down.

“It’s ripped, it’s torn,” Bracy Taylor said.

Taylor calls the damaged flag a disgrace.

He said a lot of people are upset about the worn down ‘Old Glory,’ including a few veterans.

“Our country stands for more than the way they have that flag flying like that,” Taylor said.

Taylor said he asked the store about the flag several times since it was damaged.

“They said, 'What’s wrong with the flag?'" Taylor said. "It kind of struck me, because you can see that the flag is flying, and it’s all ripped and torn and you ask me what’s wrong with it.”

Action News Jax asked the store about the flag.

An employee said the owner plans to remove the flag by the end of the week.

"If they can’t fly a flag the way it should be flown, why should I spend my money and buy gas from them?” Taylor said.
