Teen says she was raped inside Jacksonville classroom, wants to share story to help others

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Frank H. Peterson High School student said she was raped inside a local high school classroom in April.

Action News Jax is protecting the victim’s identity since she says she is a victim of rape.

“I went to go leave and he pinned me up against the wall, and I tried to fight back,” she said.

This teenage girl said she was raped in a place she felt safe, a classroom at Frank H. Peterson High School.

She said she was raped for a half-hour. The teen’s mother reached out to Action News Jax after learning six rape cases were reported to Duval County School Police in the first six months of 2017.

The teen interviewed isn’t one of the six; her rape went unreported. Fear of ridicule and retaliation kept her silent, walking among her classmates carrying a secret.

“I walk by that classroom every day to go to class and it just flashbacks, and it's hard. No one knows but my mom and certain people.”

We reached out to the school district and were told sexual assault cases are handled by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
