Thieves steal bikes from Jacksonville not-for-profit group that helps kids

Nine bikes were stolen from the Ray Greene Park BMX track area.

The track operator said thieves busted open the facility's doord.

"You see all the damage here alongside the door is incredible damage and they came in here and snipped all of my PA, all of my wires my camera," Chad Grace said.

Inside, the thieves stole the nine bikes from the not-for-profit Jacksonville BMX, two of which were personal expert bikes, worth a few thousand dollars each. The other seven were a few hundred dollars apiece.

While Action News Jax was there, volunteers drove around the neighborhood and found one of the 9 stolen bikes in a front yard.

“It's not easy to replace these bikes; it takes a lot of money,” Grace said.

Grace said the organization offers incentives for kids; for example, if students are willing to learn and make good grades, they let them come ride and get free races.

He said the community has always supported them and he’s hoping someone will speak up and return the bikes.
