RELATED: Suite Nightclub closes weeks after fatal shooting
The Jacksonville man accused of shooting and killing another man during a fight at the Town Center will stand trial on Jan. 29, 2018.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrested Toray Ricketts, 25, in March after he pulled out a gun and shot Sina Sharifai, 24, after a fight at the Suite Nightclub at the Town Center.
Ricketts is charged with second degree murder and carrying a concealed weapon.
earing buttons of his face close to their hearts, Sharifai's family faced his accused killer in court Thursday.
Suite is now closed.
In the early-morning hours of March 24, Ricketts got into an argument with Sharifai, who witnesses say was trying to be a peacemaker in another disagreement.
Ricketts claimed he was defending himself during a fight. His defense is that the fight started with Sharifai punching Ricketts, who pulled a gun from his waistline and fired off two shots to protect himself.
A judge said he's denying Ricketts' motion for a stand your ground defense, saying "a written order is coming, details a bunch of reasons why." @ActionNewsJax pic.twitter.com/rELNLDt3aP
